LeafI’ve been known to do some crazy things. Well, at least my family thinks they were crazy. My modo is “Have Fun”! You know the old saying,”You only live once”? I try to show my children you can have fun and be a little crazy, harmlessly. One Thanksgiving morning, I grabbed the kids, brought them outside, filled my arms with as many leaves as I could and carried them into the house and dropped them right on my dining room floor. My girls looked at me as if I had lost my mind. I told them …. Let’s go! Go get those leaves!! When they realized I was serious…the running and the giggling commenced. We ran in and out dropping the leaves on the dining room floor until it was covered. Talk about laughter……I still laugh just thinking about it.

I did tell them, we couldn’t keep walking over them, crunching them down until the guests came. So if they needed to walk through the room, they would need to shuffle…of course I had to show them how. I never had them offer so much to carry the dishes, glasses, silverware, and anything else that needed to go into that room. They shuffled in and out all morning…laughing all the while. I was getting a kick of how happy some leaves on the floor made them.

When the family arrived, they too thought I lost my mind but just laughed it off as another Rachelism. It was a huge hit for conversation. The girls also got to proudly tell all how they helped with everything that morning.

The clean up was fairly easy, I swept everything into a pile and everyone helped to put the leaves in bags, then I vacuumed the rest.

It was a Thanksgiving we will never forget! Well besides our Beetlejuice Thanksgiving.

Organizing Daddy May 28, 2009

I have loved making crafts since I was little. I made crafts for every holiday, season, or when I was bored. In 1978 I made my grandfather a pencil holder. When he passed away, my mom gave it to me and I use it to this day. I also had my girls make their dad a pencil holder for Father’s Day, which he still uses.

Poppy's Pencil Holder

Pencil holders are very easy to make and you need three items: a small can, glue, and Popsicle sticks.

Glue Popsicle sticks all around can, let dry over night.
Optional- Add stickers, paint, or leave plain. Make sure you date it with a permanent marker.

I love sharing craft ideas with you, so please leave a comment if you like this.

needed;

wax paper
Toilet paper rolls
paint and brush
pipe cleaners
wiggle eyes
mixed size bag of pom poms
small piece of pink felt
glue- I use a glue gun, but if kids are helping, you can use Elmers
scissors
dscn3671
dscn3672

Place a sheet of wax paper out
Paint the outside of your toilet paper rolls (it’s easy if you have a couple fingers inside roll)
place on wax paper to dry completely

Once dry glue
2 med size pom poms in middle of tube
1 sm size pom pom on top in the middle of the two med size (this forms the nose and cheeks)
cut a small U shape tongue out of the pink felt and glue on the bottom under the med size pom poms

Cut pipe cleaners about 3-4 inches to make a total of 4
glue 2 on each side of the pom poms (this make the whiskers)

Glue 2 wiggly eyes 1/2 inch above the nose

Walla Done!

To use- start rolling cloth napkin from one corner to the other, fold in half, place the folded half into the top of the tube and push it down. Let the two ends of the napkins “flop” to each side of the bunny head. You now have a floppy eared bunny napkin holder. You can make the ears as long or short as you want!

If you like this idea- Please leave a comment so I know to keep sharing!
